Types of Electric Cars
There are three main types of electric vehicles (EVs)
BEVs (battery electric vehicles) -
These are fully Electric Vehicles with Rechargeable batteries in them and NO Gasoline Engine in them. The Best advantage of them is they are very very less polluting. These batteries have to be recharged from the externalsources.PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) -
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles or PHEVs can recharge the battery through both Regenerative braking (Regenerative braking is an energy recovery mechanism that slows down a moving vehicle or object by converting its kinetic energy into a form that can be either used immediately or stored until needed. Source Wikipedia.) and “plugging in” to an external source of electrical power. After 1-2 miles the Gasoline engine is plugged in before that these cars can go on Electric power alone.HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles) -
These vehicles are powered by both Electricity and Gasoline(IC Engine). This completely works on the phenomenon of Regenerative braking which I have explained earlier in which the from braking of vehicle electricity is generated.
It starts using the electric motor then the internal combustion engine may also power the vehicle at other times, such as during rapid acceleration or when using heating or air conditioning.
